New Album Out Now!

Politically incorrect lyrics that make other bluegrass acts look like disney princesses. Instrumental prowess that will drop your jaw. Tempos and themes that will give you heart palpitations.

Fronted by award-winning flatpicker Brett Bass, Benny McDowell on banjo, and Rex Putnam on upright bass, Grandpa's Cough Medicine is an unsanctioned nuclear warhead. Tongue-in-cheek humor, scathing social commentary, unbridled savagery, and a heavy metal attitude paint their original songs with blood, booze, and testosterone.

After an attempt to cancel the band in 2018, Brett Bass is back with a bone to pick.

"In this land that I'm lucky enough to call home, expressing yourself in a controversial manner is an inalienable right. It is entirely unacceptable to me, to be told what I can or cannot say through the medium of song. Character assassination, baseless accusations and smear campaigns are the tools of spineless cowards, and I reject the assertions made about me, by people who've never even looked me in the eye or shook my hand. So I've written this new album with these contemptible clowns in mind, fully intending to make their heads spin. I shine a light on what they really are, and I drive a knife into the heart of their sacred cows. There's also more of what GCM fans have come to expect, and what the lyric police forbid me from doing. Vigilante justice, lopping off heads, slaying cougars, killing pedophiles. It is not my job to make people feel comfortable, nor do I desire to be palatable to everyone. My art will not be shaped by unAmerican moralizers who don't value freedom of expression, or be contained in what they deem as acceptable boundaries. Art has no boundaries, and if you tell me what to do artistically, expect me to do the opposite. This album is a big middle finger, Cancel This."
